Our Favorite 2017 Home Decor Trends

Are you getting the itch to update that ugly room in your home?  Here’s our top picks of the 2017 emerging decor trends and the ones we are happy to see fading away from 2016.

2017 Emerging Trends:

Recycling - This trend has been on the rise for a few years and we love it!  Repurposing old furniture into something new.  Creating furniture out of found pieces, the possibilities are endless.  What you will see in 2017 with this trend is a move away from a DIY look to a more refined artisanal feel to the recycled furniture.  2017 will bring out the high skills of repurposing old furniture.

Texture - Flat, smooth surfaces are making way for texture everywhere.  Fabrics, walls, and flooring are getting chunky and comfortable.  In 2017 we will see more chunky stitching, more pleats and folds.  With the outside world in uncertain times people want their spaces to feel comforting.

Green, Green, Green - Bright cheery green is in for 2017!  It has been named the “Pantone Colour of the Year”.  We love this, green is all about refreshment, revitalization, and nature!

Softer Edges - This year will see people “taking the edge off” their furnishings.  We will see more rounded designs in furniture.  Less boxy, rectangular pieces and more curved and circular ones.  2017 is all about calm and comfort.

We’re happy to see these 2016 trends fading:

Brass - It’s not that brass is totally out, it’s just that it was easily overdone.  We will see a move away from too much brass in one space to a mixture of warm metals such as bronze or gold mixed with brass in small accent pieces.

All White - This year rooms will move away from the flawless all white interiors.  Gone is the starkness of 2016, in comes room accented with with tones such as indigo and navy blue.

  1. The Chevron pattern - 2 dimensional Zigzag patterns are making way for more 3 dimensional patterns with richer complex colours.  Butterflies are becoming a hot pattern for 2017.
